Hrvatske autoceste to discontinue SMART card toll payments

Hrvatske autoceste (HAC) is implementing a major change to its toll collection system. Starting October 1, the SMART card will no longer be a valid method for paying tolls on highways managed by HAC.

The transition has already begun: as of July 1, it is no longer possible to top up SMART cards. However, existing balances can still be used for toll payments until September 30.

To avoid losing remaining funds, users have two primary options: 1. Users wishing to continue using electronic toll collection can transfer their SMART subscription balance to an ENC subscription account and exchange their SMART card for an ENC device at HAC sales offices. 2. Users who do not wish to switch to ENC can request to close their SMART subscription account and receive a refund of the available balance. This request can be submitted to HAC via email or in person at a sales office.
