Hrvatske šume begins acorn and beech nut collection season
Hrvatske šume has announced the start of the acorn and beech nut collection season, beginning October 1. The initiative aims to collect high-quality seed material for forest regeneration and biodiversity.
Collectors will receive gross payments of 3.30 EUR per kilogram for pedunculate oak acorns, 3.50 EUR per kilogram for spreading oak acorns, and 20 EUR per kilogram for beech nuts. These prices represent an increase compared to previous years.
To participate, citizens must obtain a permit from their local forestry office. Due to biosecurity measures to control African Swine Fever, applicants must sign a declaration stating they do not keep pigs in their households. Collection is strictly limited to registered forest seed facilities to ensure the quality of the material used for natural forest renewal.
