HS Hyosung to invest 1.2 trillion won in Ulsan silicon anode production
HS Hyosung Energy Solution Korea has signed a memorandum of understanding with Ulsan City to invest 1.2 trillion won in establishing a mass production system for silicon anode materials in the Ulsan and Mipo National Industrial Complexes. The project aims to complete the production infrastructure by 2030 through a three-stage investment process.
The first phase involves a 300 billion won investment to construct the ‘MPK-1’ plant, which is expected to have an annual production capacity of 5,000 tons by the first quarter of 2028. Silicon anode materials are considered a critical next-generation battery component because they offer higher energy density and faster charging capabilities compared to traditional graphite anodes, which can extend electric vehicle driving ranges.
HS Hyosung Energy Solution Korea is a joint venture established with the Belgian company Umicore to enter the next-generation battery material market. This represents the first new business venture for the HS Hyosung Group following its recent corporate spin-off. The company plans to prioritize local hiring from Ulsan to support regional job creation and economic growth.
