HSBC appoints Nneka Chike-Obi to lead global sustainability research

HSBC has appointed Nneka Chike-Obi as the new Head of Sustainability within its Global Investment Research division. Based in Hong Kong, Chike-Obi will lead a global team of sustainability analysts.

The appointment is part of a strategic move to integrate environmental, social, and governance (ESG) analysis directly into the bank’s Macro Strategy pillar. This shift aims to ensure that sustainability risks and opportunities are incorporated into macro forecasts, asset-class views, and traditional financial modelling, rather than being treated as a separate overlay.

David May, HSBC’s global head of investment research, stated that the evolution is intended to provide clients with “integrated and actionable insights” that link sustainability themes to portfolio construction and macroeconomic scenarios. Chike-Obi previously served as the head of APAC ESG research at Sustainable Fitch and held a director role at Fitch Ratings.
