HSBC CFO Pam Kaur to step down next year

HSBC has announced that Chief Financial Officer Pam Kaur will step down from her role next year, prior to the bank’s annual general meeting. Kaur will also not seek re-election to the bank’s board. Following her departure as CFO, she will serve as an advisor to CEO Georges Elhedery on strategic projects through the end of 2028.

Kaur, the first woman to hold the finance chief position at the $3.4 trillion-asset lender, joined HSBC in 2013. Since her appointment as CFO at the start of 2025, the bank’s stock value has increased by 125%. HSBC Chair Brendan Nelson praised her achievements and integrity across her various roles in audit, risk, compliance, and finance.

The bank has initiated an internal and external search for a successor. Kaur’s exit follows a period of significant executive changes at HSBC under Elhedery’s leadership, which has included new appointments for the board chair, the U.S. unit, and a new artificial intelligence chief.
