Hsiao Bi-khim signals potential cooperation with Chang Chun in Hualien

Political maneuvering in Hualien is intensifying as major parties signal potential alliances. Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim extended an olive branch to independent Hualien County Council Speaker and mayoral candidate Chang Chun during a campaign event. Hsiao expressed hope for future cooperation that transcends party lines to serve the local community. The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) noted that while they have not officially nominated a mayoral candidate, many grassroots representatives support Chang.

The Kuomintang (KMT) criticized the move, claiming the DPP and Chang are no longer hiding their political intentions. Meanwhile, signs of cooperation between the KMT and the Taiwan People's Party (TPP) have emerged. KMT mayoral candidate Yu Shu-chen and TPP figure Huang Kuo-chang had multiple interactions during recent campaign activities. Yu indicated an openness to cooperation with the TPP, stating she is willing to consider their policy suggestions if they prioritize the welfare of Hualien residents.
