Hsinchu Baseball Stadium case: Lin Chih-chien cleared of corruption

The Hsinchu District Prosecutors Office has issued decisions regarding the Hsinchu Municipal Baseball Stadium construction case. Former Hsinchu Mayor Lin Chih-chien and other city officials were cleared of corruption and profiteering charges, as investigations found no evidence of illegal fund flows or bribery despite multiple budget increases.

However, four individuals from the construction and supervision companies received deferred prosecution for falsifying construction logs and supervision records. These individuals admitted to recording tasks such as soil backfilling and grass planting before they were actually completed to hide project delays. Additionally, supervisors were found to have falsified inspection reports to mislead city officials.

The Hsinchu City Government responded to the ruling by stating that a lack of criminal prosecution does not equate to the engineering being compliant with standards. The city highlighted several technical flaws identified in the prosecutor's report, including the use of improper soil mixtures and the failure to remove a 500-square-meter concrete platform, which poses safety and drainage risks. The city is pursuing a civil lawsuit against the contractor, Ju-jia Construction, seeking over NT$400 million in damages.
