Hsinchu City to hold adoption lottery for abandoned Maine Coon cats

The Hsinchu City Animal Protection Office has announced a public lottery to find homes for eight Maine Coon cats. These cats were recovered following an abandonment case in the Nanliao area. All eight cats have been assessed by veterinarians and have received deworming, sterilization, and necessary vaccinations, including rabies and the three-in-one vaccine.

The adoption lottery is scheduled for October 30 at 10:30 AM at the Hsinchu City Animal Protection Education Park. To qualify, interested applicants must complete a designated “owner responsibility education course” and pass a qualification review at the park by October 27. Regulations state that only one person per household may participate, and each person is limited to adopting one cat.

Additionally, Hsinchu City officials reminded pet owners that as of January 1, 2026, it is mandatory by law to implant microchips and complete pet registration for cats. Failure to comply with these regulations may result in fines ranging from NT$3,000 to NT$15,000 under the Animal Protection Act.
