Hsinchu County candidate Chen Guanyu challenges Zheng Chao-fang over family controversies

Chen Guanyu, a candidate for Zhubei City Councilor, has publicly challenged Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Hsinchu County Magistrate candidate Zheng Chao-fang regarding various allegations involving the Zheng family. Chen raised concerns over land disputes, financial flows, and family interests, specifically citing the significant debt incurred during the tenure of Zheng's father, former Magistrate Zheng Yong-jin.

Chen also addressed the recent judicial investigation and seizure of media figure Wu Tzu-chia’s mobile phone, suggesting that such actions during an election period could threaten press freedom and Taiwan’s international standing in news freedom indices. He criticized the political atmosphere in Hsinchu, noting that he has received warnings to “watch his safety” after questioning the Zheng family.

Furthermore, Chen questioned the DPP’s commitment to fighting black gold and local family politics, asking President Lai Ching-te to clarify why the party is endorsing a candidate surrounded by such controversies. He called for transparency regarding the family's business dealings, including involvement in Chinese tea trade and green energy projects.
