Hsinchu County launches Hakka language and culture program for families

The Hsinchu County Government has launched the ‘Parent-Child Joyful Hakka Reading’ program to promote Hakka language and culture among local families. Running from August 23 to October 10, the initiative includes 12 Hakka storytelling sessions and five guided cultural walks designed for various age groups, from toddlers to high school students.

To encourage language immersion, the program integrates storytelling with hands-on activities such as traditional crafts, Hakka cuisine experiences, and visits to local cultural sites. Specific activities include exploring persimmon dyeing in Xinpu, blue dyeing in Guanshi, and visiting the Baozhong Ting Yimin Temple to learn about local heritage. Hsinchu County Magistrate Yang Wen-ke emphasized that language preservation must be rooted in daily life, moving learning from the classroom into the home and community through interactive experiences.
