Hsinchu political candidates address party cooperation and independent runs
Political developments in Hsinchu are unfolding as candidates respond to shifting party alliances. Kuomintang (KMT) Hsinchu County Magistrate candidate Xu Xinying addressed allegations regarding her role in the failed cooperation between the KMT and the Taiwan People's Party (TPP). Xu stated she never made promises regarding matters outside her authority, such as the nomination for Hsinchu City Mayor, noting that party negotiations are handled by leadership. She emphasized her desire for cooperation between the two parties to benefit the region.
Meanwhile, former KMT spokesperson and professor He Zhiyong has officially registered as an independent candidate for Hsinchu Mayor. He expressed his intention to run to protect the interests of Hsinchu citizens, despite the KMT and TPP reaching a consensus to support the independent incumbent, Kao Hung-an. He Zhiyong maintained that he remains a loyal KMT member and is willing to accept any disciplinary action from the party for his decision to run independently.
