HSIS Heart Centre manages 69 cardiology cases in one day
The Hospital Sultan Idris Shah (HSIS) Heart Centre in Serdang successfully managed 69 cardiology intervention cases in a single day on September 18. According to the Ministry of Health, the center handled 45 percent of all cardiac intervention cases processed by the ministry’s 10 heart centers.
The high-intensity operation involved 80 healthcare workers, including 14 cardiologists, six medical officers, 10 X-ray technicians, eight assistant medical officers, and 40 nurses and healthcare assistants. Of the 69 cases, 40 were elective and 29 were emergencies, including four Primary Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI) procedures required for life-saving heart attack treatments.
To meet patient needs, seven catheterization laboratories (Cath Labs) operated during standard hours from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., while an additional four Cath Labs continued working late into the night to address remaining cases. The center also demonstrated expertise in complex coronary cases using intravascular imaging technology (IVUS), including specialized treatments such as RotaPro Rotational Atherectomy and Intravascular Lithotripsy.
