Hsu Chia-ching accused of misusing OCAC funds and resources

The Taiwan People's Party (TPP) has accused Hsu Chia-ching, Chairperson of the Overseas Community Affairs Council (OCAC), of misusing public resources for personal benefit. Allegations include allowing her son to travel internationally under the guise of a ‘photographer’—a position the OCAC claims does not exist—and her husband, Tang Po-wei, allegedly using an official diplomatic vehicle to travel between Washington, D.C. and New York.

According to TPP representatives, Hsu has traveled abroad 47 times since 2022, totaling 526 days and approximately 23.83 million TWD in travel expenses. The party further alleged that Hsu's son was present on official trips to Germany and France as a young teenager. The TPP has called for an immediate investigation by the OCAC and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, demanding Hsu's suspension.

The OCAC has denied all allegations, stating that all overseas trips are necessary for official duties, such as attending major overseas community events or conducting inspections. The agency emphasized that all travel plans, personnel assignments, and budget expenditures comply with the ‘Guidelines for Overseas Business Trip Expenses’ and are subject to strict auditing. The OCAC maintained that there has been no illegal use of public funds or unauthorized use of official vehicles.
