HSUHK participates in Global University Presidents and Leaders Summit
Hong Kong Metropolitan University (HSUHK) participated in the Global University Presidents and Leaders Summit 2026, held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre on October 27–28.
During the summit, HSUHK President Professor Joshua Mok chaired a panel discussion regarding the roles of public and private universities in the AI era. Professor Mok argued that these institutions should function as complementary components of a higher education ecosystem rather than competitors, noting that private universities often provide agility and teaching innovation while public institutions offer research intensity and scale. He identified five key priorities for the future of higher education: redefining lifelong learning, strengthening interdisciplinarity, advancing artificial intelligence responsibly, broadening success metrics, and building ecosystems between academia, industry, and government.
Additionally, HSUHK signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Athens University of Economics and Business in Greece to enhance academic collaboration and student exchanges. The university also explored potential partnerships with Hokkaido University in Japan, De La Salle University in the Philippines, and the University of Brisbane.
