Elias Kofler appointed captain of HSV Hamburg handball team

Austrian handball player Elias Kofler (25) has been confirmed as the new captain of HSV Hamburg for the 2026/27 Opel Handball‑Bundesliga season. Coach Torsten Jansen informed Kofler of the decision weeks before the public announcement, allowing him to welcome new signings and prepare for his expanded duties. Kofler, whose contract runs until 2030, will act as the primary liaison with sport director Jogi Bitter and handle organisational matters within the squad. He emphasized a leadership philosophy of “you cannot ask of the players what you do not do yourself” and plans to continue the tradition of a small cabin celebration each season.

Kofler described his appointment as a source of pride and said he is “mega happy” to receive the club’s trust. He will be supported on the court by Moritz Sauter and goalkeeper Robin Haug, while the club continues its pre‑season training camp in Fuerteventura.
