Hualaihué Mayor demands urgent repairs for Carretera Austral

Cristina Espinoza Ojeda, the Mayor of Hualaihué, has issued an urgent demand for repairs to the Carretera Austral following an inspection of the route. The inspection focused on the stretch between kilometer 82 (the Pichicolo junction) and kilometer 100 (Hornopirén).

The mayor reported significant deterioration, including numerous potholes and damaged sections that compromise the safety of residents and travelers. The condition of the road has been worsened by heavy rainfall and winter weather. Espinoza noted that the lack of proper maintenance has already caused vehicle damage and led to accidents.

Criticizing the response from authorities, the mayor stated that previous efforts, such as applying sand or temporary patches, are insufficient solutions. She expressed frustration with the lack of action from the Vialidad department and called for a meeting with its director to address the needs of the community and neighboring areas like Chaitén, Futaleufú, and Palena.
