Hualien community initiatives promote tourism, sustainability, and charity

Various community and social welfare initiatives are underway in Hualien, Taiwan, focusing on economic stimulation, sustainable tourism, and charitable support.

To boost local commerce, the Hualien City Government has launched the ‘Happy Shopping Festival’. The event encourages residents and tourists to shop locally, offering prize draws for consumers who spend at least 300 TWD. The initiative aims to convert tourism traffic into actual local spending to revitalize business districts.

In the realm of sustainable tourism, the Hualien Environmental Protection Bureau and the Tzu Chi Charity Foundation held an awards ceremony for the ‘2026 Friendly Vegetarian Hotel Certification’. Twenty-five accommodation providers were recognized for promoting vegetarian diets and low-carbon lifestyles, integrating health and environmental sustainability into the local travel experience.

Additionally, the Bethesda Care Home hosted the ‘2026 I Love Hualien, Hualien Cheer Up’ charity fair. The event featured nearly 70 stalls offering food and crafts to raise funds for the care and rehabilitation of people with disabilities. The fair included cultural performances and volunteer support from local students and organizations.
