Hualien County launches public electric-assist bicycle service
Hualien County has officially launched its public bicycle sharing service to promote green transportation and tourism. The initial phase includes 20 rental stations across Hualien City, Ji'an Township, and Xincheng Township, deploying 200 electric-assist bicycles.
In partnership with operator MOOVO, the county is offering a promotion where the first 30 minutes of every ride are free. The electric-assist bicycles feature a top speed of 25 km/h and a range of approximately 70 km on flat terrain, designed to assist users with long distances and hilly landscapes.
County Magistrate Hsu Chen-wei stated that the initiative aims to connect major transit hubs, administrative offices, and scenic coastal areas, addressing the ‘last mile’ connectivity issue. The county plans to expand the network in stages, eventually reaching 150 stations and 1,500 bicycles, including a mix of standard and electric-assist models.
