Hualien promotes pomelo harvest and agricultural marketing upgrades

Hualien County is actively promoting its seasonal pomelo production through direct-to-consumer marketing and proposed logistical upgrades. The Hualien County Government and local farmers' associations have launched the ‘Autumn Pomelo Meets Hualien’ event at Taipei Hope Plaza. Running from September 18 to 20, the exhibition aims to bridge the gap between producers and northern consumers by offering fresh pomelos, tastings, and direct interaction with farmers.

In tandem with marketing efforts, Hualien County magistrate candidate Wei Jia-xian has proposed a ‘Hualien Agricultural Product Marketing Upgrade Plan.’ Following a visit to local vegetable and fruit markets, Wei suggested a multi-stage approach involving the county government and cooperatives to improve market environments, reduce transportation losses, and expand sales channels. The plan includes establishing a cross-departmental mechanism to manage supply and demand during emergencies such as typhoons or sudden price fluctuations, aiming to stabilize income for both farmers and vendors.
