Hualilán gold project shifts to independent processing plan

The Hualilán gold project in San Juan, Argentina, has announced a strategic shift to cease processing minerals at the Casposo site in Calingasta. Instead, the company plans to build its own processing plant in the Ullum department, with construction projected to begin between late 2027 and early 2028. The goal is to reach definitive production by 2029. This move is expected to involve investments exceeding $200 million, potentially qualifying the project for the Large Investment Incentive Regime (RIGI).

This change in operational strategy has caused concern among local mining service providers. Fernando Godoy, head of the Chamber of Interdepartmental Mining Suppliers of San Juan (Caprimsa), stated that the decision hits small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) hard. Godoy noted that many suppliers had made significant investments and loans based on previous plans, and the lack of predictability in communication complicates their ability to manage finances and equipment.
