Hualpén authorities investigate suspected poisoning of four dogs
Authorities in Hualpén, Chile, have launched an investigation following the discovery of four dead dogs in the Caleta Lenga sector. The animals, consisting of three males and one female, were found in a location where they typically received food from local residents.
Local officials and the Investigative Police (PDI) suspect the animals died from a fast-acting toxic substance. Macarena Bascur, head of the municipality's Responsible Pet Ownership Department, noted that the dogs exhibited signs of neurological distress, including hypersalivation and rigidity, suggesting acute poisoning.
The Municipality of Hualpén has filed a formal complaint to ensure those responsible are prosecuted for animal cruelty. Mayor Miguel Rivera stated that the administration seeks to prevent impunity in such cases. Necropsies are being conducted by Universidad San Sebastián to gather further forensic evidence. The PDI's Environmental Crimes Brigade (Bidema) is leading the investigation, and municipal security cameras are being reviewed to identify potential suspects.
