Huamanga candidates propose different urban transport plans

Candidates for the Provincial Municipality of Huamanga have presented differing strategies to address urban transport and traffic congestion in the city.

Carlos Herencia, representing Libertad Popular, criticized the Ministry of Transport and Communications' plan to introduce large buses, arguing that Huamanga’s narrow streets cannot accommodate 15-meter vehicles. His proposal focuses on rationalizing bus stops, creating a traffic light control center, installing speed controls, and modernizing electronic payment systems. He also suggested registering mototaxis to freeze their numbers and emphasized the need for driver and conductor education in coordination with local educational authorities.

Silver Palomino, the Somos Perú candidate, proposed the creation of a Master Road Plan to be developed within the first 180 days of a potential administration. This plan would serve as a 20-year technical roadmap for public transport, private vehicles, and freight. Palomino argued for reorganizing routes to reduce traffic in the historic center and emphasized that interventions such as cable cars or street closures must be based on comprehensive technical studies rather than isolated solutions.
