Huamanga to renew surveillance cameras amid high insecurity

In Huamanga, the perception of insecurity has reached approximately 87% of the population, according to indicators from the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI). In response, the Provincial Municipality of Huamanga's Citizen Security Management has announced plans to renew and expand the city's surveillance camera system.

Currently, the city has 50 installed cameras, but only 35 are operational, while 15 are out of service. Jorge Mogollón, the manager of Citizen Security and Civil Defense, stated that the first stage of the project includes a budget to acquire 13 new cameras to replace inoperative equipment. A subsequent phase will involve the purchase of seven additional cameras, along with necessary infrastructure like poles and power supplies.

The existing equipment is approximately 10 years old, exceeding its expected four-year lifespan. The current surveillance system is used to support interventions by citizen security personnel and the National Police, particularly during night shifts. The city's security force consists of 165 serenazgo officers working across three shifts.
