Huamantlada 2026 festivities result in multiple reported deaths

The Huamantlada 2026 festivities in Huamantla, Tlaxcala, have resulted in at least two reported deaths, contradicting initial official statements from the Government of Tlaxcala.

While government spokesperson Antonio Martínez Velázquez initially reported only one fatality—a 35-year-old man—and eight hospitalizations, subsequent reports and family announcements indicate a higher toll. The first victim, Juan Manuel Filomeno Herrera, died from severe injuries including head trauma and lung damage. A second individual, 57-year-old Luis Xolocotzi Ramírez, reportedly passed away after being airlifted to a specialized hospital in the State of Mexico due to severe skull fractures, chest trauma, and a bull horn wound.

The discrepancy between the Health Secretariat’s data and the communications office's reports has raised concerns regarding the accuracy of official government information. Medical reports identified the first victim as a 29-year-old man, further highlighting the inconsistencies in the official narrative provided to the public.
