Huang Rui brings contemporary Chinese art to Siena

Chinese contemporary artist Huang Rui is presenting ‘The Extraordinary Path’ in Siena, Italy, from September 18 to December 30, 2026. The exhibition features over 40 works spread across 18 locations, including Palazzo Chigi Saracini and the museums of the 17 Contrade.

Curated by Bérénice Angremy and organized by Vernice Progetti Culturali, the project is divided into two main sections. The first, ‘Space-Structure II 1983-2026’ at Palazzo Chigi Saracini, explores the artist's Taoist-inspired journey. The second, ‘SIENA / SAYINA’, is hosted in the Contrade museums and includes one work for each district.

The exhibition draws inspiration from the historical and symbolic essence of Siena, blending Western philosophical reflections—such as Italo Calvino’s ‘Invisible Cities’—with Eastern Taoist principles. The title refers to a passage from Laozi’s ‘Tao Te Ching’, representing an invisible force that transcends human language and concepts.
