Huatulco beaches closed due to Tropical Storm Erik
Beaches in Huatulco have been closed due to increased wave action and rip currents caused by the intensification of Tropical Storm Erik into a Category 1 hurricane. The municipal Civil Protection and Fire Department implemented red and black flags to restrict water access and reduce risks for residents, tourists, and service providers.
The Mexican Navy (Secretaría de Marina) forecasts waves between two and four meters along the coastline, with currents capable of pulling people out to sea. Consequently, the Port Authority of Bahías de Huatulco has suspended small vessel operations and nautical tourism activities. Authorities have advised people to stay away from breaking waves, rocks, and jetties, and have requested that beach vendors secure equipment to prevent damage from the advancing sea.
