Huawei and HP sign global patent cross-licensing agreement

Huawei and HP Inc. have entered into a multi-year, global cross-licensing agreement regarding wireless connectivity patents. The deal allows HP to utilize specific Huawei technologies, including the latest Wi-Fi 7 standard, in its computers and peripherals. In exchange, Huawei will obtain rights to certain patents held by the American manufacturer.

The agreement follows significant investment by Huawei in research and development, with the company allocating approximately 192.3 billion yuan (roughly 21.8% of its annual revenue) to R&D in 2025. Huawei reported earning approximately $630 million in patent licensing revenue in 2024. According to the World Intellectual Property Organization, Huawei remains one of the world's leading patent applicants.
