Huawei and Seres restructure smart car partnership as Luxeed RX gains L3 testing license

Huawei and Seres are implementing a structural adjustment to their smart car cooperation model. Moving toward a light-asset approach, Huawei will transition from leading product definition, marketing, and sales to a role of technical empowerment. Under this new arrangement, Seres will take the lead in managing core business operations for the AITO brand.

This shift comes as HIMA (Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance) reallocates strategic resources toward other brands, specifically Luxeed. The Luxeed RX has recently achieved a significant milestone by receiving a license for L3 autonomous driving road testing. The vehicle is currently undergoing real-world testing on urban expressways, utilizing a stereoscopic fusion perception system and an eight-fold redundancy architecture.

The strategic pivot follows financial shifts at Seres, which reported a net loss of 1.717 billion yuan in the first half of 2026. The transition aims to provide Seres with greater operational autonomy and potentially improve profit margins by allowing the company to more directly manage costs and procurement.
