Huawei Ascend AI chips may have surpassed Nvidia's market share in China
Huawei executives have indicated that the market share of their Ascend AI chips in China may have surpassed that of Nvidia. While specific figures were not disclosed, the company noted that supply capacity, rather than demand, remains the primary constraint on sales expansion.
According to IDC data, Nvidia maintained a 55% share of the Chinese AI accelerator market in 2025, while Huawei's Ascend accounted for approximately 20.3% (roughly 812,000 units). Despite this, Huawei is pursuing strategies to overcome domestic manufacturing limitations by developing the Peerium computing architecture, which uses a unified protocol to connect multiple processors and reduce latency.
In a separate technical showcase in Shanghai, Huawei presented a wide array of hardware and software innovations, including Kirin chips, XMAGE imaging systems, and the new Peerium architecture. The company is also focusing on high-performance modules like the Hi-ONE optical connection and the upcoming Ascend 950DT system, which is expected to enter full-scale supply between late 2026 and early 2027.
