Huawei expands HarmonyOS 7 to low‑end smartphones

Huawei is accelerating the rollout of its HarmonyOS 7 operating system to entry‑level devices. The beta program now includes more than 40 models, extending from flagship phones such as the Mate 80 Pro and Mate X7 to mid‑range and budget lines like the Enjoy 90 series. Features originally limited to high‑end phones – including AI agents, enhanced security modules and visual upgrades – are being gradually introduced to lower‑priced handsets.

The company unveiled HarmonyOS 7 at the HDC 2026 developer conference in China, highlighting a new AI‑driven framework, a 15 % performance boost over HarmonyOS 6, and a redesigned “Liquid Glass” visual language. With over 66 million devices already on HarmonyOS 6, Huawei aims to cement its position as the second‑largest mobile OS in China. The stable version is slated for an autumn consumer release, beginning with the upcoming Mate 90 flagship and later expanding to other markets, including Europe.
