Huawei faces US criminal trial and semiconductor breakthroughs
Huawei is currently navigating significant legal and technological developments. In a federal court in Brooklyn, New York, US prosecutors have labeled the Chinese technology giant a ‘criminal syndicate.’ The trial, which began in September, involves allegations that Huawei spent two decades stealing technology from American companies, defrauding banks, and bypassing economic sanctions against Iran. Huawei has pleaded not guilty, arguing that the US government is attempting to reframe business disputes and individual employee actions as corporate conspiracies.
Simultaneously, research firm Bernstein has released a report regarding Huawei’s new Kirin 9050 Pro chip. Despite being manufactured using 7nm-equivalent technology, likely via SMIC’s N+2 or N+3 processes, the chip reportedly outperformed Apple’s 3nm A17 Pro in multi-core Geekbench 6 benchmarks. While the Kirin 9050 Pro still trails behind Apple’s latest 2nm A20 Pro, the performance leap is being viewed as a significant architectural breakthrough for Huawei as it seeks to close the gap in the global semiconductor race.
