Huawei launches Atlas 960E SuperPoD AI computing infrastructure
Huawei has launched the Atlas 960E SuperPoD, the world’s first computing infrastructure based on Near-Packaged Optics (NPO) technology. Introduced by Rotating Chairman David Wang at HUAWEI CONNECT 2026 in Shanghai, the platform is specifically designed to accelerate the training and inference of artificial intelligence models containing up to 10 trillion parameters.
The system utilizes the Hi-ONE optical engine, the first mass-produced NPO optical engine, which features an integrated light source and a transmission capacity of 7.2 Tbit/s. By combining Ascend 960 processors with UnifiedBus interconnection architecture and Hi-ONE technology, a single SuperPoD can scale up to 4,096 Neural Processing Units (NPUs).
This configuration enables high-performance computing capabilities, reaching 8 EFLOPS at FP8 precision and 16 EFLOPS at FP4 precision. The infrastructure also supports up to 1 petabyte of High Bandwidth Memory (HBM) and employs a liquid cooling design to manage the demands of large-scale AI workloads and agentic AI technologies.
