Huawei launches EMUI 16 on Pura 90s smartphones, expanding HarmonyOS integration

Huawei introduced its EMUI 16 skin on the new Pura 90s Pro and Pura 90s Pro Max devices. The update centers on the Celia AI assistant, which can handle contextual tasks such as navigation, scheduling, messaging and single‑command operations that chain multiple actions together. The rollout is limited to these two premium models, marking the first time the new interface is offered outside of Huawei's previous EMUI versions.

The company also continues to promote its HarmonyOS platform, built on a microkernel architecture that enables seamless interaction across phones, tablets, wearables, TVs and other IoT devices. HarmonyOS supports Android APK and AAB compatibility via the OpenHarmony layer, offers development tools like DevEco Studio and the ArkUI framework, and has earned security certifications such as EAL 4+ and CC EAL 5+. Huawei positions the system as a way to reduce reliance on foreign software amid US restrictions, promising faster performance and better battery management.
