Huawei launches Mate XT 2 tri-fold smartphone

Huawei has launched the Mate XT 2 Ultimate Design, its second-generation tri-fold smartphone, in China. Unlike the first generation which utilized a screen-folding style similar to a folding screen, the Mate XT 2 adopts a “wing-type” design where both sides fold toward the center, a mechanism similar to Samsung’s trifold approach intended to better protect the display.

The device features a dual-display setup consisting of a 6.5-inch outer cover display and a massive 10.1 to 10.2-inch main OLED display when fully unfolded. It is powered by Huawei’s in-house Kirin 9050 Pro chip and includes a 5,600mAh battery. The camera system features a triple rear setup with a 50MP main sensor, a 40MP ultra-wide lens, and a 50MP periscope telephoto lens with 3.5x optical zoom.

Pricing for the device is high, starting at 19,999 yuan (approximately 450,000 to 460,000 yen) for the 256GB model. Higher-capacity versions are available, including a 1TB model and a 2TB model, which features a privacy-protecting display and includes a stylus. The 2TB model is priced at 29,999 yuan (approximately 690,000 yen).
