Huawei launches Mate XT 2 tri-fold smartphone and HarmonyOS 7

Huawei has officially launched the Mate XT 2, its next-generation flagship tri-fold smartphone, alongside the HarmonyOS 7 operating system. The device features a redesigned inward-folding mechanism that protects its 10.2-inch OLED display when closed.

Central to the new device is the Kirin 9050 Pro chipset, which utilizes a new 'LogicFolding' architecture and 'Tau Scaling Law' technology to improve efficiency and processing speed. Huawei reports that the chipset provides a 24% increase in single-core peak performance and a 52% increase in multi-core performance compared to the previous generation. The phone also supports low-Earth-orbit broadband satellite connectivity and includes an optional privacy screen technology.

The Mate XT 2 is positioned as a luxury device with prices starting at RMB 19,999. It is scheduled to go on sale in China on September 12. The launch comes as Huawei seeks to defend its leading position in China's premium and foldable smartphone markets against competitors like Apple and Xiaomi.
