Huawei launches portable Mobile WiFi 5 router with eSIM support

Huawei has launched a new version of its portable Mobile WiFi 5 router in China, model E5586-822-E, featuring integrated eSIM technology. The device is designed for travel, work, and shared internet access, weighing 96 grams and measuring 13.7 mm in thickness, which is approximately 15.4% thinner than the previous generation.

A key feature of the router is its ability to support both eSIM and a physical Micro-SIM slot. The eSIM implementation allows for automatic switching between China Mobile and China Unicom networks, or manual selection via the Huawei Smart Life app. Users can monitor data consumption and purchase eligible eSIM data packages directly through the app, though these specific plans must be acquired through Huawei’s software rather than an open marketplace.

The hardware supports 2.4GHz wireless speeds of up to 300Mbps and can connect up to 16 devices simultaneously. It is powered by a 2400 mAh battery providing eight to nine hours of continuous use and utilizes a Type-C interface for charging. The product was released in China with a launch price of 269 yuan.
