Huawei Mate 90 slated for September 2026 launch with potential eSIM upgrade

Huawei is preparing its next Mate flagship series for a September 2026 release, moving the launch forward by about two months compared with previous Mate generations. The company is reportedly testing eSIM capability for the Mate 90 line, with premium models likely to receive a hybrid dual‑SIM/eSIM setup similar to the Mate 80 RS, while lower‑end variants may retain physical SIM slots.

The earlier launch window could allow Huawei to separate the Mate 90 from its forthcoming foldable devices, giving each product its own marketing cycle and reducing competition for consumer attention. Positioning the flagship in September also places it alongside Apple’s typical release season, a strategic move as Huawei holds a narrow lead in China’s smartphone market with about a 20% share in early 2026.
