Huawei Mate XT 2 prototype adopts U‑fold design, moving away from Z‑fold

A recent leak shows Huawei is exploring a U‑shaped folding mechanism for its upcoming Mate XT 2 smartphone, replacing the earlier Z‑fold concept. The proposed design folds the screens inward, which could better protect the main displays from damage and adds an external screen for quick interactions such as reading messages or answering calls. The patent also hints at a re‑arranged camera module, though technical details remain sparse.

The Mate XT is featured in a roundup of eight foldable phones currently available in Brazil. It sports three displays – a 6.4‑inch exterior, a 7.9‑inch intermediate panel and a 10.2‑inch main OLED LTPO screen – and is powered by a Kirin 9010 processor. Configurations include up to 16 GB RAM, 1 TB storage, a triple‑camera setup (50 MP + 12 MP + 12 MP rear, 8 MP front) and a 5,600 mAh battery with 66 W wired and 50 W wireless fast charging.
