Xiaomi, Huawei, and Apple prepare for major September smartphone launches
Major smartphone manufacturers are preparing for a wave of high-profile product launches in September 2026. Xiaomi and Huawei are scheduled to hold separate launch events on September 7, focusing on new foldable devices. Xiaomi will debut the 18 Fold, a “mid-fold” smartphone featuring a 5.38-inch external screen and a 7.58-inch main screen, powered by the Xring O3 processor and Leica-developed camera systems. Huawei is set to unveil its second-generation triple-fold device, the Mate XT 2 Ultimate Design, following a pre-order period that began on August 31.
Apple is also expected to hold its major autumn event on September 9, which may feature its first foldable iPhone, potentially named the iPhone Ultra or iPhone Fold. Reports suggest Apple might delay iPhone 18 pre-orders to September 12 to avoid coinciding with the September 11 anniversary. This transition also marks a leadership change, with John Ternus expected to lead the event as the new CEO following Tim Cook's move to Executive Chairman.
In the broader market, rising component costs are driving price increases. In India, Samsung and Nothing have implemented price hikes for various models, with the Samsung Galaxy A17 seeing significant increases. Additionally, several Chinese brands including Huawei and Xiaomi have adjusted prices for flagship models.
