Huawei to launch Mate XT 2 tri-fold smartphone on September 7
Huawei is set to launch its new Mate XT 2 tri-fold flagship smartphone on September 7. The device introduces a significant design shift from the previous Z-shaped folding mechanism to a U-shaped inward folding pattern. This new architecture is intended to protect the flexible inner display by tucking it securely inside the body when closed, while also incorporating a dedicated external cover display.
Technical specifications for the Mate XT 2 include the Kirin 9050 processor and potential health monitoring capabilities that allow users to measure heart rate via the phone's sensors without a wearable. The device is expected to feature a pill-shaped camera cutout on the front display, suggesting 3D face recognition capabilities.
This launch comes amid shifting market dynamics in China. Recent July data shows Huawei leading the domestic smartphone market with a 20.6% share, followed by the OPPO group at 16.9% and vivo at 16.2%. Apple's market share in the region has seen a decline, dropping to 15.0% in July.
