Huawei eyes vertical trifold smartphone and launches HarmonyOS desktop PCs

Huawei has filed a patent for a vertical trifold smartphone that uses two hinges on the long side, allowing the device to fold into an ultra‑compact form. The design focuses on the opening and closing mechanism and could be aimed at mid‑range models, though no production timeline has been announced.

Separately, the company announced its first desktop computers running its proprietary HarmonyOS. The systems, named HM740 for business users and HM940 for consumers, will undergo testing in July‑August with an official market launch slated for September. The devices, which target the Chinese market and exclude gaming, represent Huawei’s effort to broaden its ecosystem beyond smartphones and challenge the dominance of Windows on PCs.
