Huawei unveils HarmonyOS 7 and launches Hongtu plan at HDC 2026

On June 12, Huawei held its 2026 Developer Conference (HDC 2026) in Dongguan’s Songshan Lake. Executive Yu Chengdong opened the event with a keynote announcing the release of HarmonyOS 7 – a version that removes Android compatibility, runs only native HAP apps, and delivers performance gains of up to 40 % faster response, 35 % quicker cold start, 30 % lower memory use and 60 % better background retention.

Huawei also detailed the growth of its OpenHarmony ecosystem: more than 13 000 code contributors, over 1.4 billion lines of code, 3 200+ partners and more than 13 billion devices running the platform. HarmonyOS 6 now powers over 66 million devices, with a target of 100 million by year‑end, and the ecosystem hosts over 1.1 million registered developers and 400 000 apps and services.

The company launched the “Hongtu plan”, aiming to extend OpenHarmony across more than 20 industries, 200 chip categories and 1 200 device types, accelerating industry‑wide adoption. In addition, the IT Home “Yaozhi” app was named a “HarmonyOS Monthly Star” and featured on the conference’s honor wall.
