Huawei unveils new 1‑inch camera sensor and teases upcoming foldable smartphones

Huawei detailed the integration of a 1‑inch image sensor with a retractable lens in its latest Pura series phones, combining the legacy of the P line with new optics, sensor‑shift stabilization and variable apertures. The devices also feature LTPO OLED displays, high‑capacity batteries and, according to Notebookcheck, a trade‑off of limited global 5G support.

Separately, leaked specifications indicate that Huawei plans to launch two new high‑end foldables before year‑end: the Mate XT 2, a triple‑fold device, and the Mate X9, a book‑format model. Both are expected to run on the next‑generation Kirin 9050 processor, which uses a dual‑layer stacked architecture to boost performance without a finer manufacturing node. Anticipated hardware upgrades include sensors around 1/1.3 inch, periscope telephoto lenses, and batteries exceeding 6 000 mAh, while the Mate X9 would sport an 8.15‑inch internal screen and a 6.5‑inch cover display. The devices will ship with HarmonyOS 7.
