Hubert Aiwanger calls for lower energy costs and less bureaucracy

At the sixth Entrepreneur Day in the Straubing-Bogen district, Bavarian Economic Minister Hubert Aiwanger called for improved framework conditions to support local businesses. Aiwanger emphasized the need for cheaper energy, the expansion of renewables combined with storage solutions, and an immediate abolition of the CO2 tax to maintain competitiveness.

Addressing the challenges facing the Mittelstand (SMEs), Aiwanger advocated for a major de-bureaucratization offensive to reduce unnecessary documentation and regulations. He also noted that while the Bavarian economy grew by 0.5 percent in 2025, companies remain burdened by high energy prices, skilled labor shortages, and geopolitical uncertainties.

Federal Agriculture Minister Alois Rainer also spoke at the event, echoing the demand for reduced bureaucracy. The district has actively supported its commercial economy, with the state providing 35.8 million euros in support between 2016 and 2025, helping to trigger approximately 240 million euros in investments.
