Hubert Aiwanger targets federal politics for Free Voters
Hubert Aiwanger, leader of the Free Voters (Freie Wähler), has expressed ambitions to expand the party's influence from Bavaria to the German federal government. Speaking at the party's state delegates' assembly in Günzburg, Aiwanger criticized the current federal government, describing it as an “intrusive state that has ideologically meddled into private matters.”
Following significant success in local elections—including 28 district administrators and four mayors—Aiwanger aims to position the Free Voters as a major conservative force on a national level. While the party has previously failed to secure seats in the Bundestag, Aiwanger stated, “Someday we must enter the federal government.” To support this expansion, the party plans to open a representative office in Berlin in early November.
