Hubert Hurkacz reaches Cancun Challenger semifinals

Hubert Hurkacz has advanced to the semifinals of the ATP Challenger tournament in Cancun. After receiving a wildcard and being seeded third, the Polish player began his campaign in the second round with a three-set victory over Henrique Rocha (6:2, 4:6, 6:4).

In the quarterfinals, Hurkacz defeated Roman Safiullin in straight sets, 6:4, 6:3, in a match lasting 108 minutes. The victory helps Hurkacz work toward rebuilding his ATP ranking ahead of the US Open; he is currently guaranteed to rise from 69th to 55th, with a potential climb to 45th if he wins the tournament.

His next opponent in the semifinals will be Tunisia's Moez Echargui.
