Montreal Masters 1000: Zverev upset, Hurkacz reaches third round FAST-MOVING

Top seed Alexander Zverev, fresh from a Roland Garros title and a Wimbledon final, was eliminated in his opening match at the Montreal Masters 1000. The German lost to Dutch qualifier Tallon Griekspoor 7‑6(3), 6‑2, 6‑4, ending his campaign after a brief two‑hour‑34‑minute battle. Griekspoor, ranked 69, advanced to the third round and will face the winner of the Fabio Marozsan‑Matteo Arnaldi tie‑in.

Polish No. 72 Hubert Hurkacz recorded a straight‑sets win over Chilean Alejandro Tabilo, 6‑4, 7‑6(4), to move into the third round. After a first‑round victory over Marc Giron, Hurkacz will meet the victor of Danil Medvedev versus Botic Van de Zandschulp. The tournament also saw early exits for other seeds, including Taylor Fritz, who fell to Thiago Tirante.

Griekspoor described his win as “one of the most special victories” of his career, while Zverev had earlier criticized the extended Masters 1000 schedule for causing player fatigue.
