HubSpot to lay off 7% of workforce to pivot toward AI strategy
HubSpot is laying off approximately 660 employees, representing about 7% of its total workforce, as part of a corporate reorganization. CEO Yamini Rangan stated the move is intended to align the company’s structure with a new strategy focused on delivering customer outcomes through artificial intelligence.
While the restructuring involves a shift in product and pricing models, Rangan clarified that the layoffs are not being driven by AI-related productivity gains or the replacement of human workers with automation. Instead, the company aims to reorganize product teams around the customer journey, reduce management layers, and increase decision-making speed.
The company expects restructuring costs between $65 million and $75 million, primarily due to severance and transition expenses. Affected employees will receive between 20 and 30 weeks of base pay, health benefits, and career-transition services. Analysts remain divided on the long-term impact; some view it as a strategic pivot toward AI, while others focus on the necessity of cost-cutting amid slowing growth dynamics.
