Hudong-Zhonghua shipyard expands Chinese facilities

Hudong-Zhonghua, a major Chinese shipyard controlled by CSSC, is proceeding with a significant expansion of its facilities on Changxing Island. The project aims to increase capacity to meet the rising demand for new vessels.

The expansion includes extending dry dock No. 2 by 220 meters, increasing its length from 440 meters to 660 meters. The project, valued at 394.5 million yuan (approximately $57 million), will also add two new assembly areas covering 27,180 square meters, extend crane rails by over 220 meters, and upgrade ship handling systems and supporting infrastructure.

Additionally, the shipyard plans to add two more assembly spaces of over 20,000 square meters and expand its 700-ton crane lines. The expanded berth is designed to allow the shipyard to utilize semi-tandem construction methods for large container ships and other high-value vessels. Shipyard president Chen Jianliang has expressed ambitions to double capacity during China's current five-year plan ending in 2030.
