Hue accelerates restoration of Nguyen dynasty heritage sites

The central Vietnamese city of Hue is fast-tracking the restoration of several major historical monuments from the Nguyen dynasty (1802–1945). Several key projects are currently expected to reach completion ahead of their original deadlines.

One major project involves the Nam Giao Esplanade, where emperors once performed rituals to Heaven. This restoration, costing over 40 billion VND, is projected to finish by late 2026, approximately seven months earlier than planned.

Work is also accelerating at Can Chanh Palace, a site used for royal audiences and diplomatic receptions. A 200-billion-VND restoration project launched in 2025 is now expected to conclude in November 2027, significantly ahead of the April 2029 target. Additionally, the first phase of a 52-billion-VND conservation project at the Thai Mieu ancestral temple is expected to be completed by late December 2026, roughly 20 months ahead of schedule.
